Watercolors are just beautiful. Luminous, transparent, juicy, soft, intense, watery, succulent, saturated... I could go on and on. They are pure magic.
In this workshop I will show you how to mix two of my favourite mediums with fantastic results - watercolours and art journals. This may sound like an unlikely combination but I'm here to show you how easy it is to create gorgeous art journal pages with watercolour.
As my watercolor journey developed, I noticed that almost all the workshops and tutorials I could find were focused on a more classical approach to using this medium. Mostly used on single sheets of paper, and for painting florals, landscapes, portraits, and also some abstracts. Sometimes with other media (pencils, gouache), but mostly on their own.
In the crafty art journaling world, however, it seems acrylic paint is king. While it has many great qualities, it is no way near as easy to use as watercolours. It doesn't have that beautiful flow, transparency and granulation watercolors can have.
That space between those worlds, purist classical watercolors and art journaling, is what I was missing. For some time I painted on single sheets, and I realised I much prefer to work in a journal. To me, it is more freeing. I also love flipping through my journals, but rarely do I sit with a pile of watercolor papers... While watercolors are easy to use in certain ways, they also bring unique challenges to art journaling, mostly because they are transparent and can only be layered to some extent.
And so, Art Journaling With Watercolours came about.
This class is the result of that quest. The answer to those questions. How to make the most of watercolors in art journaling. How to harness their advantages to our purpose, and overcome the challenges they bring. But mostly, this class is all about having fun!
We will be creating several art journal pages from start to finish.
Art Journaling with Watercolours is suitable for all levels of art journalists and crafters.
